Extending the Invitation to All

by Harvest on May 8, 2020

At the core of everything we do at Harvest Ministries is extending the invitation for people to follow Jesus Christ. Whether through the crusades, daily radio programs, or more recently through Harvest at Home, we present the gospel, asking anyone who will listen to make his or her decision to accept Christ.

And many have! In fact, the opportunities have only grown since shelter-in-place orders were first given. To date, since we’ve begun our Harvest at Home outreach, over 50,000 people have registered professions of faith in Jesus.

Many have written to us about the power of simply including an invitation to accept Christ in every service.

“I have been praying my family would come back to the Lord and they are starting to. . . . Thank you for always mentioning this in your message.” —K. B.

“You present the gospel so clearly and always offer an opportunity to respond! Then you offer encouragement to live out the gospel with hope, joy, and peace. Thank you! As I have been encouraged, I have been able to encourage others!” —Nancy

“We have been Harvest Partners for about a year now and are so thankful we can share in your ministry (in a small way of course). I love that you give an invitation to accept Jesus at the end of every message. . . . I’m so thankful so many people come to saving faith each week.” —Chris

“My entire family accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior because of your preaching the Gospel and your invitation to accept Christ.” —I. F.

Do you have a story of coming to the Lord through a Harvest event? Let us know.

We would not be able use these means of proclamation without the generous support of our donors. Thanks to our Harvest Partners for supporting the work of the gospel.

How Harvest at Home Is Changing Lives

by Harvest on Apr 9, 2020

When we launched Harvest at Home, we hoped it’d be an encouragement for those unable to attend church services and those affected by COVID-19 stay-at-home orders. But the response we’ve seen is nothing short of stunning—as millions have tuned in to date, and over 21,000 have made professions of faith.

Who would have thought an online outreach would have this sort of impact? One thing’s for sure: God is changing lives during these unprecedented times. From church services to feature films, from interviews to past Harvest Crusades, we’ve watched Harvest at Home become a lifeline to those in need of Christ.

Here are just a few of their stories.

“Regaining my faith”

One person wrote us:

Thank you Pastor Greg. I have been an atheist for 15 years and lately I’ve been questioning everything. I saw on FB that the president said he was tuning into Greg Laurie so I decided to tune in and right when I did he said someone watching is scared of death and doesn’t know if they’re right with God and I started to cry. I accepted Jesus into my heart. Thank you.

Another commented:

You have absolutely no idea what your words are doing for me!! I found you by pure accident or maybe not! . . . I’m regaining my faith and even though I’m a baptized Catholic, you have brought God back into my life!!

Sharing the hope

Many not only have benefited from the programming—they’ve used it as a tool for evangelism!

One viewer wrote the following:

I’m thankful for your Harvest at Home services. We’re showing them at the retirement community I work at so the residents can continue to worship on Sundays.

Another user told us this:

What an inspiration and hope as we watch from Cannon Beach, Oregon where all our motels and restaurants are closed due to the coronavirus and we are a tourist town. I shared it online so my prayer is that many who are home and/or hopeless were given hope because you aired this tonight! God bless!

We’re thankful for our Harvest Partners, whose generosity allows us to keep this going. Thank you!

10 Million Copies and Counting

by Harvest on Mar 10, 2020

As you may know, we’ve just released a brand-new edition of the New Believer’s Bible through Tyndale House Publishing.

But you may not know that this Bible has reached more people than any project in the history of Harvest Ministries. With over 10 million copies sold, and over half a million given away at the Harvest Crusades, the impact of this Bible is staggering.

Now with completely rewritten notes, it’s the premier tool to guide believers through the precious gift God has given us—His Word!

We have loved to hear how the New Believer’s Bible has impacted lives all over the world. Here’s what readers have said over the years:

“Just wanted you to know, I was saved by the Lord after an introduction to Him at a Harvest Crusade. That was almost 13 years ago. I still have the New Believer’s Bible that was handed out . . . . God bless you and your ministry.” —Debbie

“I still have mine from the early ‘90s when you did a crusade in Eugene! It’s worn and torn but I love it!!!! That New Believer’s Bible really helped disciple/teach me things I never was taught growing up in a non-Christian family.” —Ann

“Got mine two Sundays ago when I rededicated myself to Jesus! I love this Bible—so easy to read and understand.” —Stacey

“While attending the Harvest Crusade . . . I gave my soul, gratitude, heart, and life to Christ . . . . The New Believer’s Bible I received is very tattered. I bring it to school with me, I read it during class, my breaks, my lunch hour, even when I come home. In the past month, I have already gotten through Matthew, Mark, and Luke.” —A. H.

Thanks to our Harvest Partners for helping us get God’s Word into the hands of new believers. We look forward to more changed lives.

Partnered in Ministry

by Harvest on Feb 10, 2020

With every new opportunity to share the hope of Jesus, Harvest can count on an incredible group of friends. Harvest Partners are folks around the world who not only support the ministry financially but share our vision for the gospel and live out their faith in their communities.

The Apostle Paul says this:

Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. (Philippians 2:1–2 NKJV)

Like team members pushing each other on, our Harvest Partners are of the “same mind,” working with us toward the same goal: knowing God and making Him known.

Richard’s story

Richard, a Harvest Partner from Texas, lives out this mission. Through the impact Harvest made in his life, he was equipped to share Christ’s hope at the opportune time:

I began to listen to you early after I returned from being prodigal. I found your laid back style inviting and signed up for the “Go Tell Someone” Series. I then found your daily message and listened each day to your recorded radio show, each day growing a bit more. I often share your message and often your jokes with friends and with members of my Church. One of the areas that I grew in was an understanding of being generous in my heart.

I am proud that after a few years of only being able to make a token donation occasionally, God has allowed me to be a Harvest Partner . . . .

The power of a changed life

But Richard’s story doesn’t stop there:

I had the opportunity to plant the Seed of Christianity with one of the people I used to party with 40 years ago. I had the pleasure of watching the Holy Spirit transform this man’s life . . . . This last week we found out that many times the rants and strange behavior he would show, were not from alcohol or drugs, but because of a Stage 4 Brain Tumor. He was given 3–6 months to live.

Now I have the opportunity to really see how special a relationship with Christ is. [He] has no fear of death, he knows where he is going. He also does not want us to mourn, but to celebrate his coming to Christ. He wants to be that living and soon to be dying example of a Loving God.

I wanted to share this with you so you see yet another example of the impact your ministry has had.

Thank you, Richard, for sharing your story. In what ways has Harvest Ministries helped you minister to others? We’re listening.

Good News: Hope Is in Season!

by Harvest on Jan 13, 2020

Circumstances fluctuate. God’s hope is eternal.

For many of us, the holidays were a time of struggle. And perhaps the new year didn’t bring us the fresh start we’d wanted.

Thankfully we have, as our anchor, God’s unchanging gospel.

This is why we’re committed to delivering God’s message of hope, “in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2 NKJV). After all, our need for encouragement is not weekly or monthly—but daily.

A man named Pete recently illustrated this for us. He left us encouraging feedback on our Harvest app.

Hi Greg.  I want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your amazing ministry, and how it’s inspired me and helped me through some very challenging times.

I’ve never been laid off from an organization, but I was laid off earlier this month.

And literally the next day . . . your message—because I have your app—entitled ‘Better Days Ahead’ just struck me and I knew that was from the Lord, that something better is going to happen.

And then sure enough today, there was another [message]. And I was so just inspired by your message and the recordings I listen to each and every day. You have been an absolute blessing to me, and I know the Lord has some great things in store for me and my family.

But I want to just say sincerely thank you because I truly believe the Lord uses you at the right moment, at the right time, and it’s encouraged me to stay focused and to really fall back on the Lord and not just on myself.

It’s through the generosity of our Harvest Partners that we’re able to minister to those in need.

Heidi’s Story: Hope for Broken Hearts

by Harvest on Dec 16, 2019

God’s hope is balm to a broken heart. Even during seasons of grief, God shows himself faithful.

Not long ago, we received a message that proves this.

In her compelling testimony, A New Beginning listener Heidi shares how she and her family were encouraged by Pastor Greg’s words to those who grieve.

We’d like to thank Heidi for her encouragement to “run the race,” and for allowing us to share her story with others.

Moreover, thank you to the Harvest Partners who make this ministry possible.

Gospel Proclamation: Urgent and Ongoing

by Harvest on Nov 11, 2019

At Harvest Ministries, we recognize that the proclamation of the gospel must be both urgent and ongoing. Accordingly, we deploy every available method to reach as many people as possible with the saving message of Jesus Christ. Each outreach has a part to play, whether crusades, radio and podcasting, or the Steve McQueen book and film project.

In fact, we’ve seen God use these resources, in tandem, to draw men and women to Himself.

Consider Lawrence.

A longtime listener of A New Beginning, he decided to check out the SoCal Harvest and ended up coming forward at Pastor Greg’s invitation to accept Christ.

“Every time I listen to Greg,” he said, “I feel like he’s speaking right to me. Tonight, when Pastor Greg gave the invitation, I told my aunt who came with me that this is what I came for. I’ve been putting this off too long. I’m a father of four and I need to be a good example.”

Or consider Margarita.

After losing her job, her whole world came crashing down. But one day, she got in her car and Pastor Greg was preaching. She didn’t know who he was and had never listened to Christian radio before, but she said it was exactly what she needed.

Then Margarita discovered the SoCal Harvest, where she responded to the invitation to accept Christ, learned about a Bible-teaching church in her area, and now looks forward to her new life in Christ.

As we look forward to 2020, and seek to share the gospel in bigger ways and reach more people than ever before, we’re thankful to the Harvest Partners, who make these stories possible.

Because of you, we can press forward not only with urgency, but longevity, trusting that it is “God who gives the increase” (1 Corinthians 3:7 NKJV).

Is Harvest a part of your story? We’d love to hear it.

How The Crusade Saved Lisa

by Harvest on Aug 25, 2019

Lisa was invited by a friend to the Harvest Crusade in 1989.

As a teenager, Lisa was partying with friends and drinking. After she graduated from high school, at the age of 18, Lisa became pregnant. She moved in with her boyfriend, but they didn’t have a healthy relationship. Lisa’s boyfriend was drinking and cheating on her and after her baby was born, Lisa left her boyfriend and moved in with her mom. She continued to party and drink while leaving her son with her mom.

One day, her friend invited her to the Harvest Crusade, where she heard the gospel message and accepted Pastor Greg Laurie’s invitation to follow Christ. “I just knew something had to change in my life and the spirit moved me.” However, after the crusade, Lisa didn’t find a church or read her Bible, she admits after the crusade she went back to partying and drinking.

In 1992, she met her husband, and had a daughter, but her lifestyle was catching up to her. Lisa’s marriage was in trouble and heading towards divorce. She started going to church and reading her Bible. Lisa heard about a church event and as a last attempt to save her marriage, Lisa and her husband decided to attend. “God’s spirit was still with me.”

She rededicated her life to God and her husband accepted the invitation at an altar call. The Lord began to change their hearts, and He restored their marriage. God took away the craving for alcohol.

Today, they are both serving the Lord and their children are all following God. Lisa uses her marriage as a testimony and shares the love of God with others. By God’s grace they are celebrating 25 years of marriage.

Every Volunteer Plays a Part

by Harvest on

At SoCal Harvest, you may see crowds gathering outside the stadium. It’s likely they are at one of the four merchandise (merch) tables selling anything from books by popular Christian authors like Greg Laurie and Rosaria Butterfield, to stickers, hats, T-shirts, and hoodies with the latest SoCal Harvest designs. This is also where you may find great volunteers.

Tony and Deana Arellano celebrated two things at the 30th anniversary of SoCal Harvest. Nineteen years serving in a merch booth, and 19 years of marriage!

“Working in the merch booth each year is like getting together with family. We enjoy seeing and working with each other every crusade season. Our kids serve with us, and this year we even brought our niece to help out. It’s truly a family affair!” Deana brings treats from her bakery for all of the workers, “I make them cookies, brownies, and sometimes cupcakes.”

But the best part about working in the merch booth is the customers. Tony says, “It’s very encouraging to interact with people that come up and buy stuff, they like to share their stories of why they came to the crusade.” Deana agrees. “Last year, a lady came to buy Bibles and T-shirts, I had only asked her one question: ‘How are you liking the Crusade?’ She was so excited sharing with me how she had just gotten saved on the field, what her life was like before Christ, and that she was serious about the decision she made to follow Him! I love talking to people like that, that’s what these crusades are all about!”

Each year features apparel with brand new designs, and they sell out quickly! Last year’s bestseller was the Faith, Hope, Love T-shirt, and this year? “The shirts and hoodies that say Love One Another,” says Tony. “Also, when Pastor Levi Lusko wore the Change the World shirt on Friday, it sold out that night! Pastor Greg’s newest [Johnny Cash] book has also been a top seller!”

The Arellanos work each day at the merch booths and love serving together. “I enjoy any time with my wife, but seeing her connect with people the way she does, it’s like seeing God shine through her.” Deana says, “I get to serve, doing the thing I like the most with the person I like the most!”

I guess it can be said, the couple that serves together stays together.

A Volunteer’s Heart to Serve

by Greg Laurie on

It takes a village to prepare for a Harvest Crusade. There are many faithful volunteers that spend days preparing for this event. Liz Sanders takes a week off of her job to work in the Crusade kitchen, preparing food for the 30th annual SoCal Harvest Crusade volunteers. They feed many people each day, clean up, and come back the next day to cook again. They do this all week in preparation of the crusade.

When asked what was the most rewarding thing about serving, Liz said “I’m blessed by blessing others with the gift of service God gave me.” Liz believes that what she does to serve is only part of the body of Christ. “It takes all of us servants at the crusade to make it work.”

This year, she felt especially blessed by serving the veterans on Friday night. “They were so thankful for all the volunteers serving them. As the body of Christ, we need to serve one another.”

I asked Liz what she would tell someone that wants to serve at a Harvest Crusade but might be hesitant, her response was to start somewhere, to pray and ask God where they should start serving “the Lord will use you and the gifts He has given you.”

The gospel message given by Pastor Greg Laurie at the crusades has changed many lives in the past 30 years, and it’s people like Liz that faithfully serve and pray every year that help make this event happen.
