What about Armageddon and the Return of Jesus Christ?
“We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the Sermon on the Mount. The world has achieved brilliance without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants.” —Gen. Omar Bradley, Armistice Day Speech 1948
The problem with world peace
Now that we are some years into this new millennium, it is a wonderful thing to think that humankind, with all our rapid advances in technology, could soon usher in a new era of peace and global harmony. But humankind cannot bring about peace. The human heart is sinful and will never bring about world peace. The Bible tells us that “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9).
Though many seek and hope for world peace, Jesus said, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet” (Matthew 24:6).
A Time of War
World War I was called the “War to End All Wars.” However, it taught us further strategies of war by introducing air forces and bombing techniques. World War II brought the world to the brink of nuclear destruction, introducing the atomic bomb. Today there are several countries with nuclear capability and many more countries with the missile capability to carry them.
Rather than world peace, the Bible reveals that in the last days there will be hard times for the planet Earth.
