What Do You Live For?

I love this statement by C. S. Lewis: “God designed the human machine to run on Himself. He Himself is the fuel our spirits were designed to burn, or the food our spirits were designed to feed on. There is no other. That is why it is just no good asking God to make us happy in our own way without bothering about religion. God cannot give us a happiness and peace apart from Himself, because it is not there.”

When you have a relationship with God, you can find real happiness and I believe that Christians are the happiest people.

Practical Principles

  1. When you live for Christ, you’ll think of others. If you study your history, you will discover that Christians have always been the ones who have led the way in opening the great hospitals and universities and charitable organizations of the world because of their faith in Jesus Christ.
  2. When you live for Christ, you’re not afraid to die. When a believer dies, they’re headed to a beautiful place far greater than earth.
  3. When you live for Christ on earth, you’ll be with him in Heaven. The moment you take your last breath on earth, you take your first breath in Heaven. We are going to go from a broken, aging, sinful body to a new body that God will ultimately give us in His presence. No more devil. No more temptation. No more sinful inclination.

Relevant Reminders

  • A godly person—one who is living for Christ—is a caring, loving person with practical spirituality.
  • Only the Christian can say that to live is Christ and to die is gain. We don’t have to fear death because Jesus conquered death at the cross.
  • Only the person who is prepared to die is really prepared to live.

Applicable Actions

What do you live for? Jesus said, “You’re for Me or against Me.” You are either a follower of and a believer in Jesus Christ or you’re opposed to Him. Where do you stand? Is Christ living inside of you right now?
