God made a promise, a covenant promise, with Abraham. He told him, “I’ll bless those that bless you and I’ll curse those that curse you.” He also said, “I’m going to make you a father of many nations,” even though Abraham was getting on in years. Abraham was older than old, but he kept believing God was going to give him that son. He knew that God was going to fulfill His promise.
Practical Principles
- Abraham kept believing despite his circumstances. Abraham and Sarah were too old to have children, but that didn’t stop Abraham from believing God.
- Despite his feelings and his circumstances, Abraham gave glory to God. Abraham said thank you and gave glory to God before he had the answer to his prayer. What happens when we, by faith, give thanks to God despite our circumstances? Our faith will grow stronger.
- God overlooked Abraham’s lapses of faith. God does not see you for what you were; He sees you for what you are now in Christ. The past is behind you and it’s forgiven.
- Abraham put his total faith in God despite the cost. Abraham offered his promised and cherished son Isaac in obedience to God.
Relevant Reminders
- Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.
- Don’t beat yourself up over the fact that you don’t have super faith. You just come with the faith you have and believe God.
- God can make all things new.
Applicable Actions
Is your life a mess right now? Turn it over to Jesus Christ. Is your marriage failing? Can God create a new thing out of nothing there? Yes, He can. Not through your human effort, but He can do it if you turn it over to Him. Whatever your issue is, He can bring a new thing out of nothing, but you must believe and ask Him to change you.
