I just heard a story about a man who was told he couldn’t get into this year’s Harvest Crusade, but got in anyway by climbing over Angel Stadium’s fence! Later that night, this same man ended up going forward and giving his life to Jesus Christ.
That is a man who wants a relationship with God, and I believe he’s a symbol of Gen Z right now.
Gen Z Is Growing Hungry for Jesus
Something is happening with this young generation. They are really hungry for spiritual truth.
This is the iPhone generation, the generation that is drowning in entertainment and starving for real meaning.
They have access to more tools and information than ever before, yet they are called The Hopeless Generation. Did you know that 72% of teens use AI companions instead of human interaction, 42% of High School students experience constant sadness, and 22% have contemplated suicide?
Billie Eilish summed it up perfectly in her song Everything I Wanted: “I had a dream . . . I got everything I wanted . . . Not what you’d think . . . And if I’m being honest . . . It might’ve been a nightmare.”
But what we just saw at the Harvest Crusade is so encouraging. This generation of young people showed up in droves! Gen Z is reaching out to God.
When the invitation was given and people were invited down to make a profession of faith, thousands flooded the field. It was so full that the fire marshal had to shut it down, just like they had to shut the doors when the stadium filled to capacity! People were literally backed up in the aisles unable to get down for the sinner’s prayer (but the good news is they didn’t need to be on the field to accept Christ!).
And it’s not just Gen Z growing hungry for God. We’re seeing it among other generations too, with 66% of American adults now saying they’ve made a personal commitment to Jesus, which is up 12 points since 2021.
Something’s happening—even in the state so many have been quick to write off—and I pray it is the beginning of a new Great Awakening, because the gospel is the message every single generation needs to hear.
