Greg's Notes

It’s All How You Look at Things

It’s all how you look at things. We all face problems. We all face obstacles. We all face challenges. We all face giants. But see them in the light of who God is. Don’t look at God in the light of your problem; look at your problem in the light of God. He’s bigger than what you’re facing.

Practical Principles

  1. Focus your attention on the objective rather than the obstacle. When you fix your attention on the obstacle rather than the objective, fear will always eclipse your faith.
  2. Don’t allow fear to grip you. When faith walks in, worry walks out. When worry steps in, faith walks out. They don’t get along. We want faith in our life, not worry.
  3. God does not want you to run from your giants. Don’t be afraid of your giants. Face them head-on in the power of the Lord and conquer them.

Relevant Reminders

  • A giant is anything that seeks to control you, hurt you, destroy you, or torment you in life.
  • The Christian life is not a cakewalk. It’s a conflict. The Christian life is not a playground. It’s a battleground.
  • Don’t look back, like Lot’s wife did. Look forward. Don’t look at your obstacles. Look at your opportunities.

Applicable Actions

Don’t just face your giants. Defeat your giants. When I say “defeat,” I mean cut off their head. Don’t leave any backup plan to go back and do that thing again. If your giant is alcohol, take the booze and pour it down the toilet. Don’t just put it in the back cupboard so you can go to it later. If you have drugs, get them out of your life. If it’s pornography, cut off internet service if you have to; make yourself accountable to someone that could look over your shoulder and see what you’re looking at and know your passwords.

Deal with these things. Deal with your giants. Don’t let them conquer you.
