God will give you what you need. He’ll never give you what you need after you need it, but He will always give you what you need when you need it. Are you willing to leave your comfort zone and let God use you? Are you ready to take it to the next level, so to speak, in the Christian life? Or are you satisfied with where you’re at right now?

Let’s look at some of the excuses we give when the Lord wants to use us—the same excuses Moses offered up.

Practical Principles

  1. Excuse number one: “I am not deserving to be used by God.” Moses is essentially saying, “Not me. I don’t think I’m the right guy.” If you were God, would you have picked Moses? In some ways he was a has-been. A failure. An embarrassment. Even worse, a murderer who was running from the law. But God didn’t see him that way.
  2. Excuse number two: “I don’t have all the answers.” Moses basically told God, “I don’t have all the answers,” but God told Moses, “You have all of Me and I will be with you.” The same goes for you.
  3. Excuse number three: “I’m not a good speaker.” Most of us do not see ourselves as good speakers, but if you step out of your comfort zone, you will see what the Lord can do. The future belongs to risktakers, not mere ground holders. Be willing to do something outside of the box.
  4. Excuse number four: “I’m not qualified.” This can almost sound humble, but if God says, “I want to use you,” and you say no, that’s not humility. That’s disobedience.

Relevant Reminders

  • Jesus said, “All power has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go into all the world and make disciples and preach the gospel.” Have you ever noticed that connection? Before He tells us what we’re supposed to do, He tells us who He is. “I have all power. I have authority. You go, therefore, because I am in you and I will speak and work through you.”
  • God does not call the qualified; He qualifies the called. Just take that little step of faith.
  • If you say, “I’m a Christian,” and you contradict that through something you say or do, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re a hypocrite. It may actually mean you’re a human.

Applicable Actions

God is looking for people to use. In Ezekiel 22 the Lord says, “I searched for someone to stand in the gap … but I found none.” Think about that. The Lord’s just looking for people to use, people who will step out of their comfort zone and be willing to do what He asks them to. Will you be that person?
