We wonder sometimes what God is like. Is God a happy God or is He is sad God? Is He a smiling God or is He a frowning God? And how does the Lord look at you and me? Does He look upon us with approval or disapproval?
These things are answered in Numbers 6, in a blessing that the Lord wanted the priests to pronounce upon the people. It really shows you who God is and how He feels towards you: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” “So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” (Numbers 6:24–27).
Here are six truths about God that every believer needs to know.Â
Practical Principles
- God loves to bless you. The Lord is not stingy with his blessings. Jesus said, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give to you the kingdom.”
- The Lord keeps you. It’s interesting that this word used for keep means to watch, to guard, or to put a hedge around. God wants us to be constantly reassured that He will keep us.
- God smiles on you. When God looks at you, He smiles. It’s as if you walked into a room, and God’s face lit up with joy to see you. That’s how He looks on you.
- The Lord is gracious to you. Grace is God’s unmerited favor. Just as surely as you need daily bread or provision from God, you need daily forgiveness as well.
- The Lord gives you peace. Knowing all these things about God should bring peace to your life. Are you in turmoil? Know this: He loves you, and He’s in control of your life. You can rest in Him.

- If you want to live a blessed and happy life, you need to love God, obey His voice, and cling to Him.
- The Lord is going to walk with you through life no matter what you’re facing; you’ll never be alone.Â
Applicable Actions
Wherever you are, God is smiling on you. He’s gracious to you. He’s attentive to you. He wants to give you His peace. And you can take that to the bank. The Lord says, here are your choices: blessings or curses, life or death. Choose life, that you may live.
