The Need for Christians to Share Jesus

Did you know we actually don’t have a choice in the matter of sharing the gospel? It is your job, and my job, to lovingly proclaim it. It is God’s calling to every single Christian through the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20).

But the unfortunate truth is that many in the church have abandoned this command from Jesus Himself. Shockingly, 95% of Christians have never led anyone to Christ, while 59% seldom or never share their faith. It seems that the Great Commission has turned into the Great Omission, and that’s a tragedy.

What’s Holding You Back?

We all have our excuses for not sharing our faith: What if I fail? What if I’m rejected? What if I do succeed? But the calling of God is the enabling of God. 

If God asks you to do something, He will give you the power to do it. In Matthew 28:18–19, we read, “‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore. . .’” (NKJV); see, He is giving you this power as well.

You don’t need to know every answer to share the gospel. You just need to be someone who simply says, “Here I am. Send me.” Are you brave enough to pray that simple prayer?

A Simple Way to Begin

Imagine if someone had the cure to cancer and never shared it. What we have as Christians is even better. We have the cure to sin, hopelessness, and life. We must share it. We can’t keep it to ourselves.

So what if we personalized our mission, “go into all my world and preach the gospel.” We’re all influencers in some way, each with our own set of people who will listen to what we have to say. You can go to your family, your neighbors, your coworkers, your campus. . .

Sometimes you don’t have to cross the sea to spread the gospel, just the street.

This Year’s Greatest Evangelistic Opportunity 

The most loving thing you can do for another person is tell them about Jesus Christ—and an invitation to this July’s Harvest Crusade is a great start. In fact, it’s one of the greatest evangelistic opportunities we have all year. 

Over the course of the crusade’s long, 36-year history, more than 336,000 people have come forward to make a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. 

But what I really want to share with you is that over 80% of those people were brought by a friend—if you really care about someone, you’ll want them to know Jesus.

There’s a give-and-take when I present the invitation to come to Christ: I need nonbelievers to share the gospel with, and you need to get them in the seats.
