Watch this video for an encouraging interview I had with baseball legend Darryl Strawberry. While an accomplished athlete, Darryl was also known during his career for his antics off the field, struggling with a tumultuous upbringing, addiction, and various other personal struggles.
But amazingly, God turned his life around, and now he travels and uses his significant platform to preach the gospel, telling his own story of how God transformed his life.
He’s written a brand-new book, Turn Your Season Around: How God Transforms Your Life, and I was happy to write the foreword to it.
In describing his book, Darryl explains, “No matter where you’re at, your season could turn around—you might have a first six months of the year that can be difficult, but there’s another six months coming!” If you’re striving to overcome difficulty or endure through trials, take Darryl’s personal story as a testament to the fact that God really can and does take bad things and use them to grow you and bring Himself glory.
Darryl answers a variety of other questions about fame, ego, humility, and how his career in professional sports prepared him for preaching.
Recounting his life and career, Darryl says, “I tasted everything else, I tasted home runs, I tasted championships, I tasted cars, I tasted home, I tasted money—it never satisfied my soul. . . the God-shape that’s in every last one of us is only filled with God Himself.”
As I mention in our conversation, I’m always very impressed with Darryl’s humility. He’s a down-to-earth guy who always makes time for you, no matter who you are.
I hope you’ll pick up a copy of Darryl’s encouraging book and read more of his personal story for yourself. You can order your own copy in our online store.
