Thousands flocked to AT&T Stadium on June 10 from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex for Harvest America to experience music and proclamation evangelism from Pastor Greg.
In his message, Pastor Greg shared about his troubled childhood, rife with drug and alcohol use. He shared, “I was going downhill fast. . . . I was too cynical, too hard . . . but Christ changed my life one day. I didn’t plan on it, but it happened.” And now over 45 years later he speaks with authority that nothing and no one can meet our deepest need but Jesus.
Pastor Greg also touched on recent news stories that have shocked the nation, that two celebrities—television personality Anthony Bourdain and fashion icon Kate Spade—took their own lives. Last year, 45,000 Americans took their lives, he added.
“I’m not here tonight to talk to you about religion. I’m here to talk to you about a relationship, a friendship, with God,” Pastor Laurie told the crowd.
“There is someone who loves you and someone who values you. And He’s called Jesus Christ,” he stated, and quoted one of his favorite verses in the Bible, Jeremiah 29:11, which reads, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”
As it turns out, Harvest Ministries later learned one of the people listening was a young suicidal girl. Her arms were scarred from multiple suicide attempts. She was getting ready to leave after the event started, but when she heard Pastor Greg tell suicidal people that there was hope in Christ, she stayed. At the evening’s close, she walked forward and made a commitment to follow Jesus. Let’s remember to pray for her and the many others that came to Jesus last night across America.
