My Message That Inspired Jonathan Cain’s New Single

Jonathan Cain’s New Single, ‘Only A Prayer Away’

Over the years, I’ve shared a simple message: Jesus Christ can change your life, and He is only a prayer away.

And Jonathan Cain—legendary songwriter, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and longtime member of Journey—has a newly released song, “Only A Prayer Away,” that is a beautiful reminder of that fact.

My Message That Inspired Cain’s Song

I have the honor to play even a small part in the song’s creation! Jonathan said about the song: “I’m up late one night and I see Greg Laurie walking on the beach sharing the gospel and proclaiming that ‘God is only a prayer away.’ And then I just went, ‘Oh man, that’s a song.’”

The Impact of ‘Only A Prayer Away’

Jonathan later shared the song with me during the National Day of Prayer in Washington, D.C. And I had the privilege of premiering “Only A Prayer Away” on my radio broadcast. Afterward, messages began pouring in—people sharing testimonies of how their lives changed.

“This song is for anyone who’s been tired, overwhelmed, or searching for hope,” Jonathan shared. “If you’ve been feeling crushed lately, carrying pain nobody sees, need healing in your heart, your mind, your home—Jesus is closer than you think. He’s not ignoring you. He’s only a prayer away.”

‘The Lord Is Near to All Who Call Upon Him’

Scripture tells us that “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18 NKJV). This song puts that truth to music and I hope God continues to use it.

Whether someone hears it on the radio, online, or in a quiet moment when they’re searching for answers, I hope it reminds them of this: God is only a prayer away.

Relationships can be one of life’s greatest blessings. They can also be one of life’s greatest challenges. In his new book Am I Doing This Right?, Pastor Greg Laurie explores what the Bible says about singleness, dating, marriage, friendships, family, and even how we relate to people who don’t share our faith. Drawing from Scripture and personal experience, Greg offers practical guidance for building relationships that honor God and stand the test of time.
