The Season of New Beginnings

by Greg Laurie on Apr 11, 2018

Spring, to me, is a season of new beginnings. It’s a season of the day dawning . . . the beginning of new projects . . . the starting of new life. It’s a season for new things.

I love the beauty of this passage from the Song of Solomon: “Look, the winter is past, and the rains are over and gone. The flowers are springing up, the season of singing birds has come, and the cooing of turtledoves fills the air” (2:11–12 nlt).

I was saved in the springtime of the year, so for me, spring is always associated with Easter and my spiritual birthday. It’s a time when we begin anew. We make plans. We take time to see what it is God may be doing with us.

Maybe you’re in this season right now. Maybe you’re newly married. Maybe you have a new baby. Maybe you’ve moved to a new area or a new church. Maybe you’re starting a new job or a new ministry. Maybe you’re stepping out in a new endeavor. You’re looking at the future and making plans. There’s such optimism and hope.

This season brings to mind Jesus’ words in Luke 14: “But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?” (verse 27 nlt).

Be careful in this season. Move slowly and make room. New projects, new opportunities, new ministries, and new endeavors all require time and preparation. You don’t want to crowd yourself too much during a springtime opportunity that God may bring into your life. Give yourself some space around those areas. Count the cost and wait on the Lord.
