Set Free

by Greg Laurie on Jun 30, 2010
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

The Bible is replete with stories of men and women who had their lives transformed because they reached out in believing faith and took God at His Word. Think of the people who were transformed because they put their faith into action.

There was the woman who had a physical condition in which she was constantly bleeding. She had spent all of her money on physicians and had come up with no solutions. One day she heard that Jesus was coming by, so she decided, If I can touch the hem of His garment, I believe I will be healed. When Jesus came by, she reached out her hand and managed to touch her fingertip to the very hem of Jesus’ garment. All of the sudden, Jesus stopped and said, “Who touched Me?” Jesus didn’t want to rebuke her; he wanted to commend her for her great faith. And indeed she was healed at that very moment because she applied her faith.

But we also read that Jesus could do no mighty work in His hometown of Nazareth because of the unbelief of the people there (see Matthew 13:58).

Is there a vice, an addiction, a behavior, or a sin that has a foothold in your life? Are you wondering if you can ever be free from it? The Bible says, “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin” (Romans 6:6–7).

If you have put your faith in Christ, then you don’t have to be under the control of any sin, any vice, or anything apart from God if you don’t want to be. Take God at His Word.
