No Days Off

by Greg Laurie on Oct 17, 2006
Behold, He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Aren’t you glad that God doesn’t take the day off? Imagine if you were in some crisis and called out to God, “Lord, help me!” and in response, heard a voice from Heaven that said, “I’m sorry, God is not in right now. He has the day off. He is out on the golf course. But you can leave a message on His voice mail.”

Thankfully, God is always at work. God is always available. He is always listening. And during His earthly ministry, Jesus had an agenda. He had goals that He was working toward. He had purposes He wanted to accomplish. He had people He wanted to meet. He had lives He wanted to change. He had healings He wanted to perform. Jesus had an appointment with Nicodemus, the religious man who came searching for answers. And He also had appointments with the woman at the well and the poor forgotten man at the pool of Bethesda.

When the disciples were out on the storm-tossed Sea of Galilee with the wind howling and the waves raging, they panicked. Jesus was asleep in the lower part of the boat. But the interesting thing is that the waves did not wake Jesus. The storm did not wake Jesus. But the cries of His own people woke Him when they said, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” (see Matthew 8:25). God is always listening for the cry of His children, just as parents listen for their children.

The good news is that God is never late for His appointments. God is tuned in to your cries, to your hurts, and to your pains. He doesn’t slumber or sleep.
