How to Add Life to Your Years

by Greg Laurie on Aug 3, 2018
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Listen

I heard about a man who caught a cab at the airport. As they were cruising along, he had a question for the cabbie, so he leaned forward and tapped him on the shoulder. The driver let out a shriek and swerved across four lanes before he managed to regain his composure.

“What was that all about?” asked the stunned passenger.

“Sir, I’m very sorry,” the driver explained. “I’ve been driving a hearse for 40 years, and this is my first day as a cabbie.”

As we get older, we start thinking about the afterlife more often. We know it’s coming, and the reality of it grows stronger. We start losing friends and maybe even some family members. We know our day will come.

Life seems to go so slow during childhood. I felt like I was in the third grade for twenty years. Now decades go by. The good news is that because of the death and resurrection of Jesus, we can live life to its fullest. We’re told in Romans 8:11, “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you” (NLT).

When I was a young kid, I was wondering about the meaning of my life: Why am I here on this earth? Why am I so empty inside? I was searching. But at the age of 17, I heard the gospel in a way I could understand. I asked Jesus to come into my life. And I found the purpose I was looking for.

Jesus gives us a life worth living. Medical science seeks to add years to your life, but Christ will add life to your years.
