Engage in Godly Living

by Greg Laurie on Oct 26, 2004
Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord!

If you want to be a truly happy and holy person, you should not only avoid what is wrong, but you should embrace and actively engage in what is right. That is what walking with the Lord involves. It speaks of progression, of moving forward rather than sitting still.

Many people talk about what the Bible says we should not do. But the Bible also tells us what we should do. For those people who see the Bible and the Christian life as a list of rules and regulations, they have not carefully examined the Scriptures. Yes, God tells us what to avoid. Yes, He warns us of things that are perilous to our spiritual health; but at the same time, God tells us what to engage in. For example, the Bible tells us to flee youthful lusts, but then it says to follow righteousness with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart (see 2 Timothy 2:22). The Bible also tells us to walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (see Galatians 5:16).

For those people who are merely trying to avoid what is evil, they are missing the point. There is more. Loving God is not just about what not to do. It’s also what to do. Christians ought to engage in spiritual growth. We should engage in godly living. We should walk in the way of the Lord.
