Come and Dine!

by Greg Laurie on Jun 7, 2006
And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst."

Many people are ungrateful for God’s offer of forgiveness. It’s as though they had all the resources and time in the world and believe they are almost doing Him a favor by considering Christianity.

They are like people sitting in a fine restaurant, slowly reading the menu. They decide to order à la carte, so they say, “Let’s see. I would like a small order of Christianity. Hold the guilt, please, I’m on a guilt-free diet. I’ll have a side order of this belief, and another side of that belief.” They think they can pick and choose as they casually stroll up to the celestial salad bar of life.

But more accurate picture would be if they were in the middle of a hot desert, dehydrated, and starving to death. Suddenly God appears to them. He sets a beautiful table in the cool shade with the finest, freshest gourmet offerings available. Then He invites them to come and dine. The price for the sumptuous feast has already been paid. All they have to do is take a seat and feast away.

There are no other options. The choices are simple: eat and live, or do not eat and die. God has offered only one way for us to be forgiven of our sins when He came to the earth and walked among us and went to the cross and died in our place.

We are not doing God a favor by considering His offer to us. Instead, we should be running to Him to receive His offer of forgiveness before it is too late.
