Do What You Can While You Can

by Greg Laurie on Oct 11, 2018
It's not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What's important is that God makes the seed grow.

If you ever feel that your evangelistic efforts aren’t going well, remember Noah. Noah was a witness for God, yet he went 120 years without a single convert. The Bible calls him “a preacher of righteousness” (2 Peter 2:5 NKJV), although he never reached anyone except his own family. He didn’t reach thousands. He didn’t reach hundreds. He didn’t reach tens. But he reached his own family, and they believed.

Hebrews 11:7 says, “It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before” (NLT). Noah’s family knew that he loved God. They knew that he was a man of integrity.

God has given Christian parents the responsibility to raise their children in the way of the Lord. Parents, don’t fail in this mission. Don’t say you’re too busy. Don’t say you don’t have time. Make time for what matters, because time passes quickly. Soon they’ll be older.

Let’s understand that our job is to preach the gospel; our job is not to convert people. I have never converted anyone. Neither can you. That is the work of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes my job is just to sow the seed. Sometimes my job is to water a seed that someone else has sown. Occasionally I have the privilege of reaping where others have watered and sown. I’m simply called to be faithful.

Be faithful with what the Lord has set before you. God will not hold you accountable for what He has called me to do. He will not hold me accountable for what He has called you to do. But He will hold you accountable for what He has called you to do. Do what you can while you can.
