In this webcast, Pastor Greg Laurie shares a message from Exodus 20 titled “What’s the Big Deal With God’s Name?” in our Sunday Morning series at Harvest Christian Fellowship.
Sermon Notes
Did you know that names define us and we define names? Names are important to God, especially His own name, the name of Jesus is the most powerful name in the universe. God’s name is important to Him, and it should be to us, too! There is power in the name of Jesus, and there is healing in His name! We should be praying for healing in Jesus’ powerful name! Never forget to always bring your needs, and pray in His name!
Application
Why should I not take the Lord’s name in vain? Did you know that you can take the Lord’s name in vain by saying, “I swear to God this is true.” Don’t make any vows, just say a simple “Yes, I will,” or “No, I won’t.”
- If you say that you are going to do something, do it!
- When we are hired to do a job, we should do it.
- When two people commit themselves to each other in marriage, they should honor their vows for the rest of their lives.
You can take the Lord’s name in vain by not mentioning it at all. In vain describes that which is empty, idle, insincere, and frivolous. There are those that misuse God’s name for personal gain.
