A parable is a story from everyday life that is used to illustrate a spiritual truth, they are not fortune cookies, they are not fables or fairy tales. They are designed to wake us up to truths about God and his Kingdom. Did you know that Luke’s Gospel has the most parables? Perhaps the most well known parable, is the “Good Samaritan”, this term is used frequently today to describe someone who helps another, and not everyone knows it comes from the Bible!
This parable of the “Good Samaritan” is not just about good works, but about salvation! Doing good works on earth without salvation is about as good as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic! Christians need to be careful not to use the Bible to “Biblicalize” things that are not Christian!
