Sermon Notes
This week Pastor Greg Laurie continues our series 7 Signs of Jesus with a message called “Lunch with Jesus.” Together we will learn the importance of Jesus’ miracle feeding of the five-thousand.
Application
- “A huge crowd kept following Him wherever He went, because they saw His miraculous signs as He healed the sick.” John 6:2
- Sometimes people want the healings, but not the healer; they want the benefits, but they don’t want the cure.
- Jesus, better than anyone, knew their fickleness, and that they would soon reject Him, yet His heart burned for them.
- Jesus gives Phillip his first test, and it’s the only recorded time Jesus ever asked anyone for advice.
- How many times does the Lord have to teach and reteach us lessons?
- We remember what we ought to forget and forget what we should remember.
- Andrew has not been asked by Jesus for advice, but he is going to offer it.
- The little boy was poor.
- While the little boy was poor, he was also generous.
- He did something that set him apart from all the other children and adults there.
- That which was insufficient from the hands of the insignificant became sufficient and significant when placed in the hands of Jesus.
- What is it that makes a great gift in God’s service?
- It is not the magnitude of the gift; it is into whose hands it is given.
- A little can become a lot when placed in the hands of Jesus.
- Though Andrew did not personally pass the test, he did bring the boy to Jesus.
- The test Jesus was giving to His disciples was, “Do they believe that He can meet their needs, even when it seems impossible?”
- God wants to answer our prayers.
- Jesus now shows nothing is too big or small for Him to do; and Mark’s gospel gives us a little detail about what Jesus did first.
- God gives what we need when we need it, not necessarily before (and never after), but when it’s needed. Gifts from God do not come fully developed.
- “This is why I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you when I laid my hands on you.”
- We need to show compassion to those in need.
- There will come times in life when we are overwhelmed.
- Tests are given to determine if you are learning anything as a Christian.
- Nothing is too big or even small for God to respond to.
- Bring your talents, abilities, gifts, and resources to Jesus.
