How to Reach Our Culture with the Gospel

by Greg Laurie on Mar 6, 2022

Today, on Harvest At Home, Pastor Greg Laurie will be continuing in our Acts series with his message titled “How to Reach Our Culture with the Gospel”.

Sermon Notes

As Christians, we are called to share the gospel message with everyone, but it can sure be intimidating at times. The apostle Paul knew exactly how you feel when he was tasked with sharing the Good News in first-century Athens. Despite his fears, Paul achieved his goal, and we can learn from his example.

1.)  Effective communication must begin with a burden.

  • v. 16 “when Paul was waiting for them in Athens he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.”
  • Sinners are not the enemy, sin is.
  • The Holy Spirit will move them by first moving you.
  • We must be culturally relevant

2.) Define terms in a way new believers or non-believers can understand.

3.)Paul’s message arrested the interest of his listeners.

  •  Effective communication should build a bridge, not burn one.
  • Find topics of conversation to connect back to the message of the Gospel.

5.) We must preach a biblical message.

  • Our message must focus on Jesus, crucified and risen!

7.) Trust God for the results.

  • God holds us responsible for proclaiming the truth, the rest is up to Him!
  • God’s word will never return void.

People will have one of three reactions to the Gospel: some have a delayed reaction, some believe immediately, and some will mock.

Effective communication is summed up by the acronym S.H.A.R.E.

  • S: Be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
  • H: Honor and respect others.
  • A: Arouse the interest of the listener
  • R: Reveal sin
  • E: Explain the way of salvation

  • Acts 17:16-23
  • 2 Timothy 2:26
  • Isaiah 55:11
  • Acts 17:31-34
