How to Be An Encourager

by Greg Laurie on Jan 23, 2022

Today, on Harvest At Home, Pastor Greg Laurie will be continuing in our Acts series with his message titled “How to Be An Encourager.”

Sermon Notes

With the exception of God Himself, the early Church perhaps knew no greater encourager than Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus. He was better known by his nickname, Barnabas, son of encouragement. Everybody needs a Barnabas in their life at one time or another to encourage them in their walk.

1. An encourager sees potential in others and cheers them on.

  • Barnabas took Saul under his wing and true to his name, encouraged him.
  • New believers need Christians who will model for them what it is to follow Jesus.
  • If we had more Barnabas’s, we would have more Pauls.
  • Our calling is to lead others to Christ and then disciple them.
  • When people are suffering, they don’t always need a prayer; they need an encourager.
  • We are able to encourage others as we ourselves have suffered
  • If we had more Barnabas’s, we would have more Pauls.

2. If you want to be an encourager, help other Christians to grow in their faith.

  • He encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord.
  • As Barnabus and Paul went together on Missionary Journeys Barnabus was Leading but he let Paul have more opportunities.
  • Preach, encourage, disciple, repeat.

    • Proverbs 25:11
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:11
    • Philippians 4:13
    • 2 Corinthians 12:8-9
    • Psalm 38:15
    • Proverbs 27:6
    • Acts 9:26-27
    • Matthew 28:19-20
    • James 5:19
