In this webcast, Pastor Greg Laurie shares a message from 1 Peter 5:7 titled “Hope Gets the Last Word!” at Harvest Christian Fellowship.
Sermon Notes
Sometimes people may think as pastors or spiritual leaders, we are somehow above the pain and struggles of everyday people. One dark moment in a Christian’s life cannot undo what Christ did for us on the cross. We do not go to Heaven because of what we have done, but because of what He did. Pastors don’t have all the answers, neither do prophets.
Elijah was a great prophet of God, but he dealt with severe depression and came to the point where he wanted to die. The problem was Elijah isolated himself, which is never a good idea.
Application
Fill your mind with Scripture and quote it to yourself. “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you. “The word care in the phrase, “He cares for you,” literally means, “He is mindful of you and your interests. “Casting cares is something we need to do daily, and sometimes hourly. Hope has the last word, not suicide, not cancer, not depression, not death.
- Suicide is the WRONG choice.
- If you are having suicidal thoughts, you need professional help.
- Low-lows can often follow high-highs.
- Think about the things of the Lord
- We should not compare grief, exhaustion, or feeling down with a mental illness.
- We need to have compassion for people who face this struggle.
- Don’t isolate yourself from others.
