Today, on Harvest At Home, Pastor Greg Laurie will be continuing in our current series with his message titled “Dealing with Depression.”
Sermon Notes
All around us, at this very moment, is a supernatural world. It is the real world of God and Satan, angels and demons, Heaven and Hell. But it doesn’t have to be scary; in fact, it should encourage you to have faith in God’s promises.
Application
1. If we want to see God work, we must do our part. 1 Kings 18:30
- Don’t wait for the fire of God to fall on you again. You need to repair your altar first.
- If you have lost the spark, the romance, the love in your marriage, then do loving things again.
- “Now summon all Israel to join me at Mount Carmel, along with the 450 prophets of Baal and the 400 prophets of Asherah who are supported by Jezebel.”
- God is never asleep at the wheel.
- God is never asleep; He is always watching. 2 Chronicles 16:9
- “Even atheists have moments of doubt.” —C.S. Lewis
- “Social media does not bring happiness, it does not bring fulfillment, and it does not bring connection.”
2. Our job is to pray. God’s job is to answer.
- Elijah’s prayer had no screaming, moaning, or hype.
- Read: 1 Kings 18:38–39
3. God answers prayer the way He wants and when He wants.
- Sin will have its pound of flesh!
- Elijah was the instrument God used to call down the fire. But he was also the man who got depressed.
Principles about Dealing with Depression:
- Times of depression and vulnerability come after great victories.
- Depression often follows disappointment.
- Takeaway Truth: After spiritually great moments return to normal again, don’t focus on your emotions; focus on God!
- Don’t live in the past; prepare for the future.
- When you are depressed, do not isolate but surround yourself with friends
- Don’t ignore the practical when you are feeling down.
- When you are feeling down, you need perspective from God’s Word.
- The Lord spoke to Elijah in a still small voice.
- Listen for the voice of God in your life.
- It is time to leave that cave and find God’s purpose for your life. God had a plan for Elijah, and He has a plan for you as well!
