The family tree of Jesus Christ was decorated with notable sinners. In fact, they did not believe His claims and thought He was out of His mind. A key part of the Christmas story is God, in His mercy, doing for sinners what they can’t do for themselves—reminding us that Jesus came to heal broken lives and restore shattered hopes.
Normally, Jewish genealogies do not include women. A number of these women were immoral, at one point, so why include them? Because Jesus’ story is not about God helping perfect people, but saving lost people.
A truly spiritual person will not boast of their accomplishments. The person that God uses is the one who is honestly amazed he or she was ever selected. God, the Father in Heaven, chose Joseph to be a stepfather, or father figure, on earth for Jesus!
The whole first chapter of Matthew speaks of the grace of God. You have been, and are being, prepared for a special purpose by God, too. Every blessing, every hardship, everything that made sense and everything that did not make sense, have been either done by or allowed by God Almighty.
