I just wanted to share a testimony with you that we received right after the New York Harvest. It’s a little long, but it was a real blessing to see how God worked at Madison Square Garden, and I hope you will be blessed too.
Dear Pastor Greg,
This was my first time attending a Harvest Crusade. I have been an avid listener of your A New Beginning radio program on 570 WMCA here in New York. My wife and I have supported the ministry financially and with prayer support for several years.
I invited several people to the crusade, but ultimately my unsaved mom was the only one who came with me (my wife stayed home and watched our children while praying for my mom and me). I was eager to attend. I looked forward to the praise and worship, but not as much as having my mom hear the Word from one of my favorite expositors of Scripture. The worship was awesome. MercyMe! MercyMe! “I Can Only Imagine” put a lump in my throat as I felt tears begin to well up.
Then came the warmth of the Word of God related in an easy, conversational yet authoritative manner. I never tire of hearing the life-changing story of Nicodemus as told by John 3. Your exposition of the cornerstone verse of Scripture (John 3:16) was medicine for the sin-sick soul. I was touched as no doubt was everyone in attendance by the video montage of Chistopher Laurie’s life and ministry.
After the message, I sat in silent prayer during the altar call. I wanted my mom to respond on her own accord to God’s prompting, not to my goading. As I prayed silently, she sat there quietly. Finally, she asked me, “How are all these people going to get down to the floor of the Garden?” I saw this inquiry as a positive response to prayer. I told her that there was a path to the arena floor, even if they had to take the stairs.
I should mention that I had just finished reading your books Lost Boy and Why, God? in the past few weeks. I remember that you said that you would wait for someone, even if you saw them coming from the top level of a stadium. As my heart was about to burst, I asked my mom if she wanted to go down there. She did not immediately respond. In fact, the 30 seconds or so that she paused seemed that much longer because of the obvious eternal consequences.
Ultimately, she responded by saying that she could just stay here (in her seat) and pray. I know that the Lord is not limited by where He saves someone, but she had come this far and I saw the need for her to go all the way. I told her that if she wanted to go that I would go with her.
The next few moments were pregnant with purpose. I repeated it to her. I can’t tell you if she said yes or simply stood. All I know is that I stood after she did, took her hand, and we walked to the area behind the stage.
At that time, you mentioned that apparently there were not enough counselors to speak with each person individually, but that each person would have a counselor, even if it was in a group setting. We were blessed to have Mike and his wife Gladys counsel my mom as we all prayed together and as she invited the Savior into her heart. God is so amazing!
I constantly get the feeling that He winks at us occasionally. You see, Mike asked me where I lived and I told him the Bronx. He mentioned that he grew up in the Bronx. When I told him the street that I live on, he mentioned that he drives a truck and makes deliveries on a weekly basis to the
supermarket that is literally less than two blocks down the road from my home. His pastor is Dr. A.R. Bernard, the man who offered the opening prayer and is indeed another of the proficient expositors of Scripture in our world today.
Isn’t that just like God to just happen to allow a Californian to come to New York to speak to an audience of thousands so that He could enter the heart of my mom and then to have her counseled by a man who is within two blocks of my house on a weekly basis. Glory be to God!!!
I am reminded of the verse from the classic hymn, “What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought since Jesus came into my heart!” May the Lord ever bless you and your ministry. I look forward to meeting you Christopher and the rest of your family and ministry team in heaven. Thankfully, my mom will be there as we get to know each other!
Many blessings to you. Continue the great work of faith. 1 Corinthians 15:58.

P.S. I am grateful to the Lord that He has allows us the privilege to support this and other life-changing ministries. We will continue to do our part in supporting his work through your ministry.
