In the Midst of a Storm
Over the years I have preached certain truths again and again. I’ve told certain jokes too many times. I’ve said things to people that I believe are true, but not all of them have been experienced because we can only know so much and experience so much in our lives at a given moment.
But at this point in my life I have found that many of the things I have preached to others I now have experienced myself. And it is so glorious to realize that all of these things that have been said are true.
It is really easy to say to someone who has lost their job, “Just trust the Lord, friend, and He will provide.” It is really easy to say to someone who is sick, “Well, just pray, and the Lord will heal you or help you through this crisis. He will use it for His glory.” It is really easy to say to someone who has lost a loved one, “Well, you will see them again in Heaven, and the Lord will be with you.”
But what about when it happens to you? All of a sudden you find yourself thinking, “Okay, I have been saying this, but is it true?” I can tell you from experience that it’s all true. That is why I continue to preach it.
Job said, “Look, I have seen all this with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears, and now I understand” (Job 13:1 NLT). He was saying, “I have said it, but now I have seen it. Now I know it. Now I am experiencing it.”
That is what often will happen in the midst of a storm. The Lord will come to us in a way that we’ve never known Him before.
