For His Glory

by Greg Laurie on Aug 11, 2005
Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

I have read that fifty percent of evangelical Christians believe that happiness and personal fulfillment are the purpose of life. In other words, they believe that God put them on this earth so they could be happy and personally fulfilled. But that is not what the Bible teaches. The Bible teaches us again and again that we were created to bring glory to God.

The prophet Isaiah said, “Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him” (Isaiah 43:7). We were created to bring glory to God. Therefore, we are to glorify Him in all that we do with our lives, as the apostle Paul reminds us, “We who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory” (Ephesians 1:12).

Paul also tells us, “Whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31), and “You were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s” (1 Corinthians 6:20).

So you see, we were created to glorify God. We should give some thought to that, and ask ourselves, “How can I glorify God? Am I seeking God’s will for my life? Am I seeking to walk the way He wants me to walk? Am I doing what He wants me to do?” It is in this commitment to bring Him glory that our life finds the purpose, meaning, and happiness that we are looking for.
