Walking to Heaven

by Greg Laurie on Sep 29, 2018
By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

You can live to please yourself, which will make you miserable. You can live to please others, which will be very frustrating because you can’t always please everyone. Or, you can live to please God.

That is what Enoch did. He lived to please the Lord. Hebrew 11 tells us that “he had this testimony, that he pleased God” (verse 5 NKJV). That is an awesome testimony.

Jesus said, “I always do those things that please [the Father]” (John 8:29 NKJV). May that be said of you and me—that we live to please God.

The Bible also tells us that “Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him” (Genesis 5:24 NKJV). Enoch didn’t die; he went to Heaven in something like a solo rapture. Enoch walked with God on earth; therefore, he was received by the Lord in Heaven.

I believe we are living in the last days. I believe that Jesus Christ could come back at any time. As far as I can see in my study of Bible prophecy, I believe the next event on the prophetic calendar is what we call the rapture of the church, when all true followers of Jesus are caught up to meet the Lord in the air, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye.

But if the Lord doesn’t come in our lifetime, then we’ll die. The Bible says, “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 NKJV). There’s no escaping it. When you walk with God and death comes, you don’t fear it, because you know that when you die, you’ll go to Heaven. The moment you take your last breath on earth, you’ll take your next breath in Heaven. That is the hope of the Christian.
