The Day the War Began

by Greg Laurie on Sep 1, 2018
"Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

If you’re a Christian, then I’m sure you would agree that the greatest day in your life was the day you committed your life to Jesus Christ. It was a great day for many reasons: you passed from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to the power of God. Your eternal destiny was changed from a place called Hell to a place called Heaven. The Bible teaches there is rejoicing in Heaven over one sinner who comes to repentance.

However, it was also the day that a very real spiritual war began in your life. It has been said that conversion has made our hearts a battlefield. Believers can be known by their inward warfare as much as they can be known by their inward peace.

Here’s what it comes down to: anyone who chooses to be on the side of the Lord Jesus Christ will face severe opposition from Satan and his followers. Either you will fight, or you will be defeated. Either you will gain ground, or you will lose ground. You can’t be a spiritual pacifist, or you will get knocked down. You have to be involved in the spiritual battle.

It’s time to put on your spiritual armor and learn from God’s Word how to be more than a conqueror in Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul exhorted Timothy, “Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them” (2 Timothy 2:3–4 NLT).

We as the church are marching on, even against the fortresses of the enemy. We may lose a skirmish here or a battle there, but we will win the war. The truth of the gospel ultimately will prevail.
