The Good News Kids premiered in 2001. God triumphed through them as a praise and worship choir. However, when Harvest began its Adult Gospel Choir, Good News Kids took on a new challenge. God also called GNK to become a gospel choir with a passion, purpose, and calling to present the gospel in multi-ethnic styles of music. As we glorify God in all we do, we will see God open the doors to new opportunities. Our purpose is to remain faithful and focused on Jesus in our personal lives and in this special music ministry called Good News Kids' Gospel Choir.
What Does GNK Do? We have ministered at Rock the World, Harvest's Children's Church on Sundays, senior citizen homes, Prayer Awareness Sunday and the Harvest Christmas Service.
What Is Expected of GNK? We rehearse on Monday nights from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We emphasize good singing technique; spend time learning new songs, skits, dances, and hand motions as well as sign language. Occasionally, we may need an extra half hour of rehearsal and practice until 8:30 p.m.
If necessary, we rehearse on a Saturday before a big event. We try to schedule at least two events a month, usually from January through June. Each year, we encourage the kids of GNK to be a part of the Harvest Children's Christmas Program from September through December. Immediately following the Christmas program, Good News Kids' Gospel Choir starts meeting in January.
Why Be a Part of GNK? We believe that these are wonderful opportunities to serve the Lord and to grow as a believer and as a communicator. Each year, we watch in amazement as the Lord grows these children in discipline and in their talents. They become mighty soldiers of the Lord. God does great things in and through the kids. They can see God's hand at work as we minister to kids and adults. They develop strong Christian friendships. We work very hard and see the reward of teamwork. We share creative input and have lots of fun together. I believe the Lord calls each child into this ministry. He has a plan to help each GNK kid grow in character and talent.
Audition Info: Every year on the last two Sundays in May, there is a reminder in the church bulletin for parents to get more information and to sign up their child after service for the GNK auditions. The sign-up table is on the hill in the Children's Courtyard. The audition days are usually the first two Saturdays in June.
Note: The two audition days are for both KPC and GNK choirs. If your child has a preference concerning choirs, it would be good for us to know. However, if your child is chosen, we can't guarantee which choir he or she will be in.
Harvest Requirements to Serve: All KPC and GNK kids are required to go to an age-appropriate service each week in order to participate in music ministry. It is so important to attend service and be fed the Word of God.
